Echoes From Paradise, Part 7

“Hear Ye Him”

Sermon Two, Section Two

This is the continuation of the second sermon preached by watchful. It is the last section. The sermon is titled:

Facts Are Unchangeable

“Hear Ye Him!”

If you have not gone through section one, you can find it here: Go to the first section…

“To try to work your own way out of sin is like a child who, after splashing muddy water all over her white dress, takes up some leaves to wipe the mud off her white dress. It simply makes it worse. Only one way of solving that case. The dress must be washed in water with soap. Period! My dear friend, you have no otherwise about it. Only Jesus’s blood by the Holy Spirit working in you can remove the stains of sin from your soul. Practicing your religion is a waste of time if you haven’t received Jesus in your heart.

“Some people pretend that they have no sin. What a lie from hell. It should be common sense that blackmailing your neighbour is a wicked thing, isn’t it? but sometimes common sense is not so common as we think. Why not? Because men fool themselves about simple facts. It is obvious that lying is a foul thing, smelly and stinky, and you aren’t fooling anybody that you don’t know that. It is obvious that hating is a heinous act. Yet you go hating people around you, and you pretend that you have never sinned. Yes, you know very well that gossiping and whispering is sinful, yet you impudently practice it daily. You know very well that swearing and cursing is a wicked practice, yet you do it daily and you pretend you have not sinned?

“You know very well that filthy talk is sinful before God, yet you daily practice it, and then pretend that you have not sinned? You know very well that abusing someone is a odious act, yet you daily soil your mouth with it. You know very that dressing immodestly is immoral and adulterous, yet you pull your body into some mean, tight attire to allure men to lust after your body, yet you pretend that you are not a sinner. Stop pretending! Own up the facts! You stand indicted!

“Common sense means your knowledge about simple facts. I have met learned people who have no common sense at all. They cheat and hurt their friends about almost anything and go bragging about it; to me that is simply foolishness, and I have no apology about it. They lack common sense! If indeed you are a learned man, then how comes that simple facts have eluded you! The simple knowledge of knowing that it is a most foul thing that soils your reputation to cheat your fellow man out of something and then go bragging about it! How uneducated you are! You have all theories about what not and what have you, but you have no basic knowledge about life!

“The very idea! My! If you cheated your enemy to escape him, you will be justified, but cheat your friend and then add insult to injury by bragging about the same, how foul must your spirit be! Repent! That is the only remedy for you. If you harden your heart and refuse to repent penitently, then you must perish! That is a fact! Only those who penitently repent are saved through Jesus. Practicing your religion won’t remove the least of your sins from your soul. Only repentance and believing in Jesus can set you free from sin. To receive this great benefit of forgiveness of sin and salvation from the same, you must believe Jesus in your heart and with your mouth confess him as your only Saviour. That is the prescription for the salvation of any sinner. Any other way is bound to fail. That is a fact. You won’t cheat your way around it.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Rom 10:9-11

“Yet how many religious people pretend to believe in Jesus, yet they are ashamed to own him, to confess him before men. They blush if they were told to confess him before men. Those are mere hypocrites! They don’t believe at all. Neither are they saved.”

“Oh my God, have mercy on me,” cried Fearful, “I am guilty of that! Many a times I am ashamed to confess before men that I am saved. When the wicked come around blaspheming and jesting, I don’t stop them by seriously owning up that I am saved and therefore, I don’t partake in such. It soils my soul! I work in an office that has to do with money. Many times, evil men pull dirty tricks to swindle money, yet I have always feared to rebuke them. I feel ashamed to speak to them about how wicked their practices are. Though I don’t partake in their evil trade, but I am a witness of it, and by that I stand as condemned as they are; before the throne of God, I am as dirty as they are, as vile as they are, as foul as they are, as wicked as they are.

“Many times, I have failed to own up my confession in the face of sinners. I either fear them or I am ashamed of Jesus my Saviour. Oh, poor me! Woe unto me! Who shall save me from this carnal heart, so foul! Ashamed of my Saviour, my only Saviour? Far be it!”

“Yes, he remains your Saviour, and if you truly repent and lay all your hope on him, he will save you from all that. Simply mean it! Take your burden to Jesus and leave it there! Don’t carry it back! Open your heart for him to come in, to convert you. It is your turn now. Stand and be counted! Face it! These are facts which you cannot change!” Watchful spoke directly to Fearful.

“Oh God, I receive you through Jesus your son. Forgive me for being ashamed of you. How odious an act is this blushing in me about my Saviour! So foul! I confess it and lay it under the blood of your son. Deliver me. Convert me. Transform me. Make me a new creature. Give me a new heart. Circumcise me and give me a new spirit. I have no other hope. You are my only hope. I confess you before all present and absent. Once more touch my heart with your saving grace. Please, do…!”

“Remember, dear Fearful, He is here to confirm His word. God is here. He stands by His Word. Do you believe it?”

“With all my heart I do! Forgive my sin and touch my soul once more, oh God. For, lo, here am I… I surrender all.”

“Now, here is what the word says: Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. Eze 36:25-27

“Hear Ye Him!”

“He is here to do that for you! You need to be washed by the water of the word. You need a new heart and a new spirit to be able to resist evil. You were born in sin. There is no way you can help it. You have to be born again. You have to be created a new. You need to be converted. Receive Him, in the name of Jesus Christ, I command you, do it!”

“Amen! My brother, I receive Him in! I need Him… so bad! He is the only one who can convert a dog into a sheep. Religion cannot help me. A pig I was born and a pig I remain; washing me with human works cannot convert me into a sheep. The key God alone has it. That key is His word, the word that was in the beginning with Him, by whom all things were created; the same which was made flesh, even the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. unto Him I cry, to deliver me from this Pharaoh, the god of this evil world.

“Remember me, oh God. Have mercy on me, oh God. Forgive me, oh Lord and do it for your name’s sake… I plead; I cry; I repent; I turn around to you. Come now and cleanse me. You only can remove spots from the leopard. You only can remove bands from this zebra. You only can make the Ethiopian skin white. Oh, I need you!

“A-a-amen! Glory to His holy name! There He comes, He comes into my heart now! I own Him. I believe Him. I confess Him! He is mine and I am His! My Saviour and my God He is! Hallelujah! Glory to His name! How triumphant! How magnificent! How excellent!”

“There it is,” Watchful straightened himself, “a second witness that God is here to confirm His word. All you need to do is to believe with all your heart. These are facts please! They are undeniable. God is here! Christ His son is here! Salvation through his name is real! The Holy Spirit is real! All these things are real. Whether you believe or not it makes no difference. You will still meet these facts when your day in court comes. By not believing you are only cheating yourself.

“God created you for one purpose, that you should serve Him. That is a fact, and I don’t care how a king you are, it can’t bend for you! And after the fall of man, God has one way out, and that is to save you by you hearing the gospel and believing in His son, repenting all your sins to be cleansed so that you may receive the Holy Spirit to convert you. If you fail to do that, then you must perish.

“Repent! Turn around and own it! This is the way of life. The only way of life. It is repentance through Jesus Christ. No other way works. Your religion has already failed, for it has not set your soul free from sin. With all your religion you are still bound by sin. Forget it and flee to Jesus. There, own up your sinful state and penitently confess all and you will witness his saving grace. It is a fact; this is the only prescription that works. It is Jesus!

“I say this with no apology at all, that sometimes the most learned people are the most an uneducated about the way of life; the most cheated by themselves, for I see them daily pulling foul tricks all around to steal public funds, to defraud the government, to cheat their way through the courts, to swindle public money, to snatch the only covering from the poor during the cold rainy season, and you call that wisdom? No, never! That is foolishness! Wickedness is the foolishness that earth will be glad to rid herself of. Heaven and earth are witnesses to all your wickedness and a day is approaching when they will stand to bear a clear record of that before your face. Then you who commit such things will be brought to book. You can’t escape! You must be brought to book soon or later!

“What? How can a man with any common sense at all, having millions of monies (dollars or whatever) in banks, loot from a charity meant to feed starving people, just because that department falls under his docket? Forging lies about balancing the books of finance to loot money to heap in banks, yet the same fellow is aging, dying away constantly, drifting fast to meet his maker, the supreme judge! Has such a man common sense? He is foolish, a very fool, an exotic one. That is the truth of the matter. Oh, how truth can be painful bitter, just a two-edged sword!

“Some man, heading an institution, swindles money from poor parents, parents who hardly afford two meals a day, yet the fellow happily steals money from such people by forgery, how can they escape damnation? As you swindle money from such poor people, eating and drinking without sweating, you are only heaping hell fire upon your head. Be warned! God is a just judge. When your case comes up before him, you will pay to the last farthing. You will smart then, I tell you, you will smart. Repent!

“Common sense many times is never so, as we think. Common sense should teach such cheated men, cheated by themselves, that it a foul, wicked thing not only to steal from people who are dying, but to steal from a bag of offerings! For that money was raised by well-wishers into that bag to feed the poor, then you go poking holes in the same bag so that a large amount of it may fall your way! How can you escape judgement unto damnation, you wicked men! I indict you before the judgement throne of God to pay to the last farthing when your day in court comes!

“Yes, it is a wonder, quite a wonder of the millennium, that common sense is not so much so in this world. I appeal to you as my witnesses. Do people around you take these simple facts about life seriously? No! never! I am yet to see it.

“Yes, any honest person accepts and acknowledges simple facts. To deny simple facts is to lack common sense, the end thereof will tell the truth about the facts thus wronged but not erased. No matter how a man of wits you are, no matter how accomplished you seem to be in the eyes of the public, you can never go against simple facts and still keep and cheat your way out. They will catch up with you by and by. I speak to you in the name of the Lord. Facts will catch up with you soon or later.

“How foolish can a man be? Knowest thou not that the earth has recorded all that you have done, and heaven has seconded it, and your feet are hastening you, frogmarching you to your Payday Sunday! Your own lies entangle your feet and chains your hands handing you to the custodians of the law, and you won’t escape until you pay the last farthing.

“A honest man calls a spade a spade. What you don’t want to be done to you, never do it to your fellow man! That should be common sense. That should be a simple fact. Any honest man should strive to adhere to it. Any learned man should uphold that, for learning methinks begins with A, B, C, D; yea, I take it for granted without any apology that learning begins with simple facts about life, about your very dear life, to ensure that you preserve it, not only mortally but eternally.”

“Get it! To rebel against God is to lack common sense! Anybody who doesn’t sincerely believe in Jesus, the Word of God, for salvation, the same has rebelled against God.”

Watchful paused, as he looked all over the auditory. I stood there, absorbing every word from him. I knew all that flowed from his lips was the very truth. I wondered at the gracious words spoken through him. I knew very well without a doubt that it was not him as a man speaking, but God who was in him. And at that juncture I remembered my own encounter with the simple truth which is not learned in schools. Truth about right and wrong.

I was a little kid in Standard Three, and I had never attended any church, neither did my parents attend church, yet one day coming from school, passing through sugarcane farms, and being hungry, I pulled one and prepared myself to chew, but before I put it upon my teeth my own conscience came for me and frogmarched me to the judgement throne of God and condemned me. I felt guilty before God for stealing, yet I had never been to church, nor was I taught anywhere about God. Where did that knowledge come from? From my very conscience, for man was made in the image of God and all simple facts about life are manifested clearly in his conscience from his childhood, and he is not about to fool anybody that he is not aware of it because his shadow has never approached a church door.

As I thus thought, Watchful Meek bounced back: “You don’t need to learn religion to know the truth. The truth is to be born in you, as you receive the word, and grows as the tree of life in your midst. The truth is before you, and the lie too. You have to make a choice. How can a man with common sense choose death instead of life? It defeats reason! Think! It is a choice you must make. You choose wisely life eternal you obtain, but you choose foolishly, everlasting destruction is your lot. It is up to you!”

Till we meet, till we meet,

Till we meet at Jesus’ feet:

Till we meet, till we meet;

God be with you till we meet again.

“Yes, Hear Ye Him!”
